I spent my entire working life as an officer in the Royal Fusiliers. During my service I travelled extensively around the world and completed numerous tours in trouble-spots, including Northern Ireland, the first Gulf War, East Timor and Afghanistan. I worked in arms control travelling extensively in eastern Europe before the expansion of NATO.
Since leaving the Army, I have been a South Norfolk District councillor for Diss and served as Mayor of Diss. I am married with three grown up children who all attended local schools.
I ran the Diss Youth and Community Centre as part of my remit as a Diss Town Councillor. I oversaw refurbishments and improvements to the building. Diss Museum also benefitted by gaining new offices at the Centre. Diss Youth & Community Centre is now a thriving and much-used local resource. During my year as Mayor of Diss, work was begun on the Cornhall and Heritage Triangle project.
